STATEMENT
I am announcing today that I am resigning as a Greens representative and from the Tasmanian Greens, and will represent Clark as an Independent MP.
This is not a decision that has been made in haste. Far from it. I have represented the Greens in local government and in State Parliament for more than 20 years.
However, in order to be as effective as possible in my role in Parliament, and in representing the people of Clark, their interests and lutruwita/Tasmania’s interests, I will sit as an Independent on the crossbench and work constructively across the Parliament.
I have notified the Premier, the Speaker, the Parliamentary Greens, and Greens party representatives of my decision this morning.
I know this will be disappointing for some, and perhaps not unexpected for others. I resign from the Greens with the clear intention of being more effective, accountable and heard on matters that are important to our state and the community of Clark.
I would like to thank the people who have supported me, and I hope that you will continue to provide succour, advice, wisdom and friendship. I understand, however, if this is not possible following this announcement.
My thanks are also extended to the many party members and volunteers. No doubt this decision will not sit well with many of you. Again, I say that this is a decision I must make in order to be more effective in the Tasmanian Parliament.
Finally, while I will make my voice heard in a different way, my beliefs and values remain the same.
