Ministerial Workload

Ms BURNET question to PREMIER, Mr ROCKLIFF

[10.59 a.m.]

With the risk of burnout of ministers identified by yourself, you have chosen not to take on any ministries yourself. Would it not have been prudent to lead by example and share the load or are you devoting too much of your spare time interrogating apparent misconduct by your ministers or, as you put it, cleaning up 'piles of crap' that are ending up on your desk?

Members interjecting.

The SPEAKER - I do caution members on language.

Ms Burnet - I was quoting.

Mr Abetz - Yeah, but that's no excuse. Unparliamentary.

Mr Shelton - Says a member that left her party.

Mr ROCKLIFF - I thank the honourable member for the question. I'm seeking some advice on whether that's a job application or not.

Ms Burnet - No, I'm talking about you, Premier.

Mr ROCKLIFF - Look, we all lead very busy lives. My ministers are not only capable but very busy, as are our local members as well, of course. I can refer you to my diary disclosure, if you like, in terms of the work I do in and around Tasmania in the interests of transparency. You can well appreciate the work that I'm involved with, the people I meet and the people who want to be represented by this government when it comes to this parliament or indeed elsewhere as well.

I have every faith in the ability of our ministers to manage their time and be very diligent when it comes to their portfolio responsibilities and the stakeholders they contain within in the best interests of Tasmania.
