Question Time: Payout to Senior State Servant

Ms BURNET question to PREMIER, Mr ROCKLIFF

 [10.31 a.m.]

As the cost of living soars and the fuel crisis putting huge financial pressure on families, the idea that a senior state servant is receiving $1 million payout is pretty jarring and a matter of significant public interest. Can you confirm if the former Secretary of State Growth, Craig Limkin, is still employed by your government? And if he has been terminated without cause due to the axing of state growth, whether he was paid out for one-year employment or for the remainder of his contract? How much was that payout?

ANSWER

Honourable Speaker, I thank the honourable member for your question and I appreciate your reflection on the challenges that we're facing with the fuel crisis, cost-of-living crisis and associated matters, which is why we do need to be very diligent and resourceful when it comes to our upcoming budget, as all state governments are, and apply those resources where possible.

But what we want to see is an end to the war. This is impacting significantly across the globe, the war which was very poorly executed with absolutely no plan.

Ms BURNET - Point of order, Speaker,  This question to the Premier is not about the war, that was just a reflection. It is about the position of the former head of state growth.

The SPEAKER - I draw the Premier to the question.

Mr ROCKLIFF - In the context of the member's introduction, the war that started with no plan is hurting the world, it's hurting Australia, and it's hurting Tasmania and it must end.

To your question, Mr Limkin is on leave. Mr Limkin has not been terminated and any future employment matters for Mr Limkin we will ensure that the public has full knowledge of.

Supplementary Question

Ms BURNET - These are decisions by your government which involve public monies, but if Mr Limkin has not been terminated, where has he been moved to? Did you say that he has? He's not been terminated. So where has he been moved to?

Mr ROCKLIFF - Mr Limkin is on leave.
